"Swifts at Chapel Milton " by @vickijordanart
‘Swifts at Chapel Milton’ was inspired by an issue local to me, where swift nesting sites on the Chapel Milton viaduct had been cemented over during maintenance work by Network Rail.
Swifts return to the same nesting sites year on year; if unable to access their nests they would not be able to breed and could die in their attempts to access the sites.
Thankfully, after many emails, petitions & protests, Network Rail have now unblocked these nesting sites and the returning swifts can access their homes.
Swifts are incredible birds, spending most of their lives in flight and landing only to nest. These returning swifts will have been flying for 9 months, all the way from Sub-Saharan Africa, to finally arrive home, a viaduct in Derbyshire. They therefore felt a very appropriate subject for the 'Home is where the heart is' theme.
Open edition print, design size approx 19x13cm", printed onto white Kent printmaking paper.
