"Rooted" by @cath_bristow_prints

“Rooted” is my response to the theme of “home where the heart is” 
Based on the idea of putting down roots and the importance of feeling safe and secure to be able to grow. As well as a physical building, home can be about feeling connected to a place or group of people where you feel “at home”,  a sense of belonging and feeling accepted - this is the heart of it.
Choosing orange for my print was a conscious decision to symbolise the warmth of friendship and a deeper connection to our past when our ancestors would sit together in the glow of firelight.
 
Each of my prints is made from multiple layers using stencils, which are cut from paper and screen printed. I overlay each stencil on top of the other to build up layers of lighter and darker tones. I make all of my screen printing ink from natural dyes. The ink for this print is made from coreopsis flowers. I grew these from seed, watered them nurtured them through sun and rain, picked the flowers when they faded, heated the flowers in water to slowly extract the colour, thickened the coloured dye and then screen printed with it, to make these prints for you. 
Each one is slightly different. Approx 15 x 21cm
