"Murmuration" by @seven.pines.printing

For me, "Sound & Vision" immediately brought to mind the costal birds I see and hear every day here in Cornwall.
We are so fortunate that each year, thousands of starlings flock to the fields around us, performing their mesmerising nightly murmurations.
I have photographed and filmed this spectacle many times, yet nothing quite captures the rustling of their wings as they pass overhead or the breathtaking visual patterns they create as they move in perfect unison.
Inspired by this, I set out to capture the essence of murmuration in a lino print.
My design evolved as I carved and printed, something that often happens in the process.
My final print was created using a single lino block, with the starlings swirling.
I first printed in pale tones, the rotated the block 180 degress and reprinted in black ink, creating the impression of an endless movement of birds in flight.
