Playful Grasshopper
Full colour multi block lino print on A5 paper with accompanying handprinted card by Kristy Widdicombe-Dutch @woodleastudio
This pair of prints is based on the moral to one of Aesop's Fables, 'The Ants and the Grasshopper'. This design of the top-hatted grasshopper, and his fiddle on the separate smaller card, turns the moral on its head, asking us to think about why we work so hard. The artist believes that children benefit more from play rather than the constant urge for productivity, and that we can all find joy in the little things. The print is dedicated to the artist's own father who sparked her imagination and curiosity in the natural world when she was a child. The origin for this design is in her childhood memory of catching grasshoppers in overgrown grass with her father.
